FAQ

  • What age can my child start playing?

We begin our programming in Neenah SC with our 5U Launchpad program.

    Check out our Recreational Programs.

  • What does the U in 6U mean?

The U in soccer age designations stands for “under”. So, in the case above, it would mean “Under 6 years old”. What this means in practice, is any player who will be 6 years old or younger in the calendar year of the corresponding spring season will be eligible to play 6U.

Please see our "What is my U"

  • Do you know of any summer camps for my son/daughter?

There are plenty of opportunities for players during the summer months to continue their soccer development. Most colleges or universities with programs have camps where youth players can train, play and hang-out with collegiate players and coaching staff. Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) started holding a college ID camp in 2022 for the spring/summer months. Neenah SC, in collaboration with Neenah High School holds our annual Rocket Camp every August prior to the high school boys season. There are organizations like the Dutch Soccer Academy, Wisconsin Elite Soccer Academy, Camp Shutout (goalkeeper specific) and many others which cater to players at every age and level of development. In essence, there are many opportunities throughout the community, state and region for players to keep growing and honing their craft.

  • How big are the fields?

Field sizes for each age group are implemented with US Youth Soccer’s (USYS) best practices for player development in mind. Neenah SC looks to ensure that the field size addresses the developmental needs of the player at each stage of play

    4U-6U: 20 yards long x 15 yards wide

    7U-8U: 20-35 yards long x 15-25 yards wide

    9U-10U: 55-65 yards long x 35-45 yards wide

    11U-12U: 70-80 yards long x 45-55 yards wide

    13U+: 110-120 yards long x 70-80 yards wide

  • How many players are on a team?

Much like field sizes, the number of players on the field and on a team reflect the age of the players. The team sizes listed below are ideal situations to maximize playing time and provide enough substitutes, but are not hard numbers:

5U-6U: 3v3 (three players on the field per team), 4-5 players on a team

    7U-8U: 4v4, 5-6 players on a team

9U-10U: 7v7 (first stage with goalkeepers), 8-10 players on a team

    11U-12U: 9v9, 11-12 players on a team

    13U+: 11v11, 14-18 players on a team

  • What size ball do you use?

    5U-8U size 3

    9U-12U size 4

    13U and older size 5.

  • What equipment is needed?

At all levels players will need to supply their own soccer shoes (cleats for grass, indoors for gyms), shinguards, age-specific soccer ball (see below), a water bottle/sports drink, and proper attire (practice jerseys for training if applicable, athletic clothing, uniforms for games)

  • How many practices are there per week and how long are they?

The number of practices per week and their lengths are dependent on the age and level of the player:

5U-6U Recreational: 45 minutes, once per week

7U-8U Recreational: 1 hour, once per week

7U-8U Academy: 1 hour, twice per week

9U-10U Recreational: 1.25-1.5 hours, once per week

9U-10U Academy: 1.25-1.5 hours, twice per week

11U+ Recreational: 1.25-1.5 hours, once per week

11U+ Classic: 1.25-1.5 hours, twice per week

12U+ State League Teams: One 1 hour practice and two 1.25-1.5 hour practices per week

  • Do I need to purchase a uniform every year?

Classic and academy uniforms are purchased every 2 years(before fall season in even years, 2024 will be our next kit cycle).  Reason for this is because the manufacturer only guarantees the style for 2 years.  If your child outgrows it, you will need to purchase a new one.  Recreational jerseys are purchased on a yearly basis.  Sizes are asked during registration.

  • Does Neenah SC have a refund policy?

Neenah SC does have a refund policy.
